Clean the garment with perspiration right away. Time is of the essence when it comes to this especially.  Today’s anti-perspirants have aluminum compounds in them along with other chemicals.  The chemicals and acids in your perspiration can react and discolor the underarms of your clothes and will not show themselves right away.  Over time the stain will become evident and harden in the area, weakening the fibers.

If the garment is washable, pretreating the area well and washing it as soon as possible is best. Using vinegar in the rinse water and avoiding high dryer heat is advisable. If your garment needs a professional press you may want to just bring it to your favorite dry cleaner anyway.

If it is a dry clean garment it is critical to bring it to a reputable dry cleaner and make sure that the staff is aware of the underarm condition. The professionals understand the treatments needed that are relative to specific fabrics and dyes.  This will give your favorite pieces a longer life span!
