Have you ever bought some new really nice and soft t-shirts or golf shirts and in no time at all you see a hole and wonder how did that happen? If it is reoccurring in your household you should reexamine how you wear and care for your knits. It also seems that the finer the knit the more often it happens. Well if you think about it they are delicate and should be treated that way. Here are some really good tips to help ward off those holes and add longevity to your favorite knits.
- The finer the knit, the more delicate the knit. Try to do less laborious work that would come into contact with abrasive rubbing (sadly even seat belts can be damaging).
- Keep in mind overtime you tuck your shirt in and your pants or jeans are too tight there is a great opportunity for the knit to be stressed around the waistband.
- When you wash these at home, be sure to wash them on a cold delicate cycle (with like colors) and not very many pieces in the load so that the knits slosh in the water instead of a full load that gets a lot of agitation.
- Make sure you only wash the knits together and DO NOT put any hard finish clothing like jeans in the same load.
- Add a little fabric softener to soften the threads and never pull on them when you pull them out of the washer or dryer.
- My personal recommendation is to dry them on low for about 5 minutes and then hang them to dry and remember not to pull on them, you can break the loops and create a hole down the road.
- Moral of this post is clothing like this requires patience, haste makes waste.
